Feinstein High School has been labeled as making insuffciet (SIC) progress for the past 5 years by NCLB standards. There are no AP courses offered in any subject. Feinstein is also very far below the state average for both mathematics and english/language arts. In that same year, the average percent of students proficient in english language arts in Rhode Island was 54%, a 2% improment (SIC) from the previsous (SIC) year for the state average. Feinstein High School's percent was 18%, which is better then the 7% for the mathematics, but in the previsous school year, 33% students were proficient in english(SIC) language arts. The percent of families that participated in the SALT survey in the 2005-2006 school year was only 8% (Information Works).
Conclusion
Feinstein High School is not a very good school EXCEPT FOR SPORTS. The graduation rate is only 66.3%, which is 9% lower then the state target of 75.3%. Failing NCLB standards for the past 5 years is also not the best thing to have labeled to a school. This school does have to deal with a lot of poverty, which will make it harder. Their basketball teams are very good apparently though, so they've got that going for them. Feinstein is a very diverse school, and there is a lot of poverty in the surounding (SIC) community, so there is a few things stacked against them. On the plus side, they are not the least safe school in the state, but then again, they are kind of close.
